Running of the Horses
Get a dose of history and horse rac-
ing at the Palermo Hippodrome in
downtown Buenos Aires. The ornate,
neoclassical French façade greets
visitors and immediately whisks them
back to a bygone era — or in this
case, 1908, the year the entrance
was completed. The opulence and
elegance is palpable inside, where
men and women alike dress to
impress (but plenty of guests go for a
more casual look). The on-site casino
thrills, theater shows entertain, and
fine dining and shopping options
abound. As for the ponies, some 10
races take place each month from
late afternoon until after midnight,
and entry is free.
