Middle Atlantic, Coast
During this time of year, temperatures begin to
warm the shore, and many outdoor activities begin
to emerge. Play a round at one of the area’s many
golf courses — including an authentic Scottish
links course on Brigantine Beach. Rent a bicycle
and ride the length of the boardwalk, soaking in
the sun and sights. Spend the day hiking inWharton
State Forest, part of the famed New Jersey Pine
Barrens (and the so-called haunt of the mythical
Jersey Devil). Go flounder fishing on a party boat,
or view marine life, including dolphins, during a
relaxing day cruise. And speaking of relaxing, treat
yourself to some well-deserved “me time” and
choose from an assortment of nirvana-inducing
treatments at an area
spa
.
The beginning of the year along the south New
Jersey coast is relatively temperate, with average
high temperatures ranging from the low 40s°F to
50°F (5°C to 10°C). Crowds are usually a little thin-
ner than during summer, and discounts to shows
and dining are more readily available. Enjoy the
laughs at The Comedy Stop, located at
The
Quarter at Tropicana
(an entertainment district
modeled after Old Havana in Cuba). And you can
still enjoy the beach at the Landshark Bar & Grill.
It’s the only year-round restaurant located on the
sand, complete with retractable walls offering
unsurpassed views of the surf.
The crowds of summer are gone, and brisk, com-
fortable days are here. Clear, moon-filled nights
make for some of the most romantic times of the
year to stroll the boardwalk. This is also the most
celebratory time of the year to visit. As Halloween
nears, local tales of the macabre abound, includ-
ing stories of the Jersey Devil, at the kitschy
Haunted Tales attraction. For a more frightening
time, check out the Night of Terror at Creamy
Acres Farms, about an hour’s drive away. Come
December, the city ushers in the holiday season,
with
festive colors and dazzling light dis-
plays
virtually everywhere. And if you can’t find a
New Year’s Eve party to your liking here, then
you’re in the wrong city!
Warm breezes and sea temperatures make this the
best time of the year to enjoy the many sandy
strands the area affords. The passive can drop a
towel virtually anywhere and while the day away,
and surfers and kayakers have plenty to be thankful
for.The boardwalk truly comes alive this time of the
year, with vendors and performing artists — not to
mention eager throngs of tourists — virtually
omnipresent from sunrise to sunset (and beyond).
The historic
Steel Pier amusement park
is open
late, providing visitors ample time for one more go
on their favorite ride. And ever since 1921, the most
beautiful women from around the country descend
on the city for the Miss America pageant.

For the top-notch entertainment options. Some of the biggest names in gaming (Bally’s, Caesars, Harrah’s,
and Tropicana, to name a few) are represented and deliver thrills 24/7. Outside, the Atlantic City Boardwalk — the first
of its kind and arguably the world’s most famous — runs more than 4 miles and offers shopping, dining, and the Steel
Pier amusement park, the place to be for a variety of rides and attractions. Of course, this resort wonderland’s entire
raison d’être
— the magnificent Atlantic Ocean — is a delight to swim in, or lounge by, during the warmer months.
One thing that can be enjoyed regardless of the season is the roar of the surf — it’s music to the ears.
