For a touch of glamour on the Sinai Peninsula. Sharm el Sheikh may be on the edge of a desert, but rustic
and rugged it’s not. The cosmopolitan leisure center offers a solid tourist infrastructure with everything from nightclubs
and casinos to wellness services and spas. But it’s not hard to appreciate the community’s key draw — a treasure trove
of snorkeling and scuba diving sites under the sparkling waves of the Red Sea. With waters warmed year-round by a
reliable sun, activities above and below the surface are plentiful.

April’s highlight is the International Camel
Competition. From camel auctions to the race that
determines the fastest dromedary in the Sinai, the
event is packed with festivities. With temperatures
not quite up to their summer highs, this is a good
time to get in a visit to a Bedouin community, per-
haps on a dinner tour or for
coffee
or tea. But the
weather, as always, is perfect for underwater
explorations.
1 – 13
It’s hard to tell the seasons apart in this region,
but the first few months of the year are relatively
mild, with temperatures ranging from 64°F to
73°F (18°C to 23°C). So during the day, all forms
of beach and water sports are game. But this tem-
perate time of year might be ideal for desert
trekking, whether traversing a la Lawrence of
Arabia on a horse or
camel
or taking a four-wheel
drive tour of the spectacularly colored canyons.
40 – 52
Daytime temperatures drop somewhat during
the latter part of the year. Spend the morning
on the Jolie Ville golf course and the afternoon
shopping — whether in the colorful
souks
(markets) or at upscale boutiques — before
sitting down with a traditionally thick Bedouin
coffee at the Farsha Café, where tented environs,
swinging lamps, and lots of floor cushions create
a magical
Arabian Nights
(or days) mood.
27 – 39
The sun is at its peak at this time of year, so with
daytime temperatures falling between 91°F to
99°F (33°C to 37°C), spending time underwater
is particularly refreshing. Just don’t forget sun
protection on, under, and away from the water.
Cleo Park
, an Egyptian-themed water park is a
fun way to cool off. Desert temperatures drop at
night, so an evening on the town is a great way to
cool down. Enjoy some casino action or nightclub
shows.
