Brazil, Southeastern Coasts
Laguna:
It was founded in 1676, and is still home to hun-
dreds of historical buildings, numerous museums, and the
impressive Lighthouse of Santa Marta. (1:50 from Santo
Amaro da Imperatriz)
Botuverá:
Explore Caverna de Botuverá. With nine cham-
bers, some that are 65 feet tall (20 meters), it’s the largest
cave in southern Brazil. (2:00 from Florianópolis)
Penha:
Whether it’s thrill rides, wild animals, or live enter-
tainment, Beto CarreroWorld (above) has attractions to make
the entire family smile. (:40 from Itapema)
Get the little ones out on
the water. Florianópolis’
Scuna Sul offers various
itineraries that focus on
scenic cruising around the
bay and to historic sites.
Or, if you’d rather combine
your sightseeing with
dancing and other
seagoing fun, sign up for
one of the pirate party
boats.
After experiencing Santa Catarina’s magnificent coastline, it may
be difficult to believe there could be another place in Brazil
equally as pretty, or as worthy of your vacation time.
That is, until you venture to
São Sebastião’s Camburi Beach
area
(above). Far removed from the bustle of São Paulo, this is the type of
place where time slows down and it’s possible to truly relax, whether
you do it on the sand or by escaping into the nearby rain forest. Be
sure to check out the island of Ilhabela, too. It’s a wildlife hotspot,
and prime destination for hiking and scuba diving.
