TRAVEL PLANNER 2016 – 2017
There’s more to this stretch of Mexico’s Pacific coast than Puerto Vallarta
to consider for your next exchange or Getaway.
Approximately 270 miles (435 kilometers) north of Puerto Vallarta lies the Pearl
of the Pacific,
Mazatlán
. With miles of golden sand edging blue water, this
west-coast colonial city has rightfully earned its moniker. From swimming with
dolphins in their natural habitat to strolling through City Forest (the name pretty
much says it all), you’ll find plenty of opportunities to commune with nature.
As is the case with Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán is much more than a resort town.
The historic city center (below) is a haven to artists and musicians. The blocks
surrounding the grand 19th-century cathedral are dotted with art galleries, and
the nearby Teatro Ángela Peralta hosts a variety of cultural events. Beautifully
restored buildings line the popular Plaza Machado town square and house
excellent eateries and boutiques. The more modern Zona Dorada (Golden Zone)
dazzles with upscale restaurants, clubs, and golf courses.
At Zoológico de
Vallarta, get friendly
with the mammals,
reptiles, and birds.
You can actually touch
or even feed many
animals, including
hippos, camels, and
spider monkeys.
