hy Go?

For one of the world’s top beach destinations. Take your pick from calm to surfing-suitable waters and popular

or deserted strands. Laze in the sun, play in the waves, and dine on fresh seafood at relaxed waterfront eateries. And

beyond the shore, you’ll find much more than pretty resort towns. Puerto Vallarta is a bona fide city with sophisticated

restaurants and shops, and rich artistic and cultural offerings. Come for the beach, but prepare to discover much more.

Fans of water sports, welcome to paradise. The

weather’s warm, the water’s refreshing, and the sea

life is abundant. On tap for your enjoyment: big-

game fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving,

sailing

,

surfing, water skiing, kayaking (you can even sign

up along the Malecón to rent a kayak for free), and

more. And there’s no shortage of land-based

activities, including golf, zip lines and ropes

courses, nature walks, and horseback riding. Free

bike rentals are also available along the Malecón.

40 – 52

Puerto Vallarta boasts a

fantastic food scene

,

which reaches its culmination during the

International Gourmet Festival in November. But

you can celebrate culinary

and

architectural

achievements anytime with a tasting-and-walking

tour to feast on authentic regional specialties and

learn about the city’s history and culture. Nearly

every night of the week, there’s a fiesta at Plaza

de Armas town square, where residents gather for

a drink or snack, to listen to music, and of course,

to dance.

1 – 13

Year-round you’ll want to take advantage of

Puerto Vallarta’s outdoor pastimes, but never

more so than now, when daily temperatures aver-

age 75ºF (23ºC). Embrace the local arts scene by

joining a weekly Art Walk from late October

through May, and stroll along the seaside

Malecón promenade

, admiring the iconic

bronze sculptures. Lose yourself in the cobble-

stone streets of colonial Old Town. This is also the

season to embark on a whale-watching tour for

prime viewing of these magnificent mammals.

27 – 39

Although this is the height of rainy season, you

won’t have to forgo beach and outdoor activities.

Days are characterized by bright sun, with short

bursts of intense rain. These showers usually

come in the late afternoon and offer the perfect

excuse to check out worthwhile indoor attractions.

Poke into one of Puerto Vallarta’s many art gal-

leries, admire the lofty interior of its distinguished

Our Lady of Guadalupe church

, or duck into

the closest restaurant for some fresh ceviche.
