GETTING A FAIR TRADE
When you place an exchange request, Interval’s state-of-the-art system
evaluates your resort week, based on the following factors, so that the vacation accommodations you
receive and your vacation experience are comparable to those at your home resort.
TRAVEL PLANNER 2016 – 2017
RESORT QUALITY
Interval International measures and monitors the
quality standards of our member resorts by
reviewing evaluation forms received from
exchange guests, conducting resort inspections,
and employing our unique Quality Rating System.
Factors considered include aspects of the resort,
units, and destination; physical attributes of the
property and facilities; the availability, quality, and
scope of guest services and amenities; and
resort location.
In terms of location, because timeshare resorts are built to
reflect local culture, architecture, and lifestyles, the standards of
accommodations vary from one area to the next. While some
disparity exists in the quality of accommodations and amenities
from one destination to another, experiencing different cultures,
locales, and resorts is an appealing part of exchanging for many
people.
Interval’s system is designed to give you a fair exchange
wherever you travel.
SUPPLY AND DEMAND
Your ability to secure an exchange is also influenced by the supply
of and demand for resort weeks, both at a specific resort and
within your desired vacation destination. Simply put, the resort
weeks that are available (the supply) are those that have been
offered for exchange by Interval members. But, some members
prefer to hold on to the unit they purchased because they like the
season (families with children might buy a week during the summer
because the period between school years is the only time they can
travel together) or the location (avid skiers will likely want to keep
their week in the Colorado Rockies or the Alps). When members
who own at highly desirable destinations during peak travel
periods do not give up their week for exchange, there may not be
enough resort space available to satisfy every member’s vacation
request (the demand).
To partially remedy this situation, we attempt to increase the
supply of weeks available to you through a variety of methods.
And, to help you better understand the ebb and flow of leisure
travel demand within a destination area throughout the year —
and assist with vacation planning — Interval International provides
its proprietary Travel Demand Index (TDI). To learn more about the
TDI, see page 16. For more information about the demand in your
desired vacation destination, go to the first page of each of the
106 features in this

SLEEPING CAPACITY
Sleeping capacity is determined on the basis
of two people per private sleeping area —
not maximum occupancy. Units with more
private sleeping areas are often in greater
demand and generally will yield higher trading
power. To determine the private sleeping
capacity of a particular resort unit, refer to this
number in the
Travel Planner
and in the online
Resort Directory

occupancy of an Interval resort unit, refer to this number

ENHANCING YOUR TRADING POWER
When new resort weeks enter the exchange system, we first
review all pending exchange requests for possible matches, based
on the above factors. Only after we’ve completed this process do
we release the weeks to members seeking an instant exchange
confirmation. Therefore, the best way to enhance your exchange
opportunities is to place a pending request, and to do so as early
as possible. This not only boosts your trading power, but also
gives us the most time to find a suitable match. Keep in mind that
the more flexible you are when selecting dates and destinations,
the better your chances are of receiving an exchange confirmation.
