1. FREEDOM TRAIL:
Walk the 2.5-mile (4 kilometers) marked path that winds its way past 17 key
historical sites. Start at Boston Common.
2. BOSTON COMMON:
Whether you ice-skate on the lake, picnic on the lawn, or admire fall foliage,
it’s a quintessential experience in any season, along with the adjacent Public Garden.
3. SULLIVAN’S:
Grab a hot dog at this Southie staple (established in 1951), and stroll the perimeter
of Revolutionary War landmark Fort Independence on Castle Island. Look out for boats sailing into
Boston Harbor and planes taking off from Logan Airport.
4. FENWAY PARK:
Catch a baseball game at the Red Sox stadium, which was built in 1912. Be sure
to stay by your seat for the eighth inning when fans erupt into song, belting out Neil Diamond’s
“Sweet Caroline.”
5. JOHN F. KENNEDY PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM:
Relive the Camelot years at this
impressive I.M. Pei–designed structure overlooking the waterfront.
6. SACCO’S BOWL HAVEN:
Try your hand at candlepin bowling, a sport played almost exclusively in
New England and Canada.
7. PRUDENTIAL TOWER:
Ride the elevator to the 52nd floor, and stop in for a cocktail at Top of the
Hub, which boasts 360-degree views from the heart of the city.
8. NORTH END:
Embark on a self-guided eating tour through the largely Italian-American
neighborhood. Not to be missed: the brick oven–baked pie at Regina Pizzeria and filled-to-order
cannoli at Maria’s.
9. MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, BOSTON:
Marvel at the wide-ranging collection of nearly 450,000
works.
