The Maui Film Festival is celebrating
its 20th anniversary on the Valley
Isle. Unlike your typical film festi-
val, the event — taking place June 12
to 16 — sparkles under the night
sky with gastronomic happenings,
tributes to Hollywood luminaries,
and international film premieres at
inventive open-air venues, such as
the Celestial Cinema at the Wailea
Gold and Emerald Golf Course and
the Wailea Beach Toes-in-the-Sand
Cinema. The fest kicks off with the
Taste of Summer launch party, fea-
turing creatively crafted cocktails
and cuisine, and plays host to the
Taste of Chocolate and Taste of Wailea culinary spectacles. Special passes are
available, with various combinations of gourmet tasting receptions, VIP seating,
and special film screenings.

Sea turtles will be taking over the shores of Platanitos Beach for the seventh annual Festival de la Tortuga Marina (Sea Turtle Festival) in July.
Coinciding with the start of sea turtle–release season, this family-friendly celebration—which promotes the conservation of this endangered
species — features free cultural and recreational activities, including a turtle-hatchling release, live music, and food vendors. But plan time
to meander around the area: The tranquil beach is great for swimming and body surfing, and the local restaurants serve delicious seafood.
