INTERVAL INTERNATIONAL

Water worship plays an integral part in any trip to

this subtropical paradise, and it all starts at the

countless beaches

up and down the coast. The

fishing doesn’t get much better, and the area

offers everything from bass fishing in freshwater

canals to big-game action in the Atlantic. For a

splashing good time, Rapids Water Park in Riviera

Beach offers 13 water slides that range from

thrilling to chilling. Tour the Fort Lauderdale canals

and mansions, and then go snorkeling on a coral

reef aboard the

Spirit of Lauderdale

catamaran.

And for waterfront dining with a twist — giant

tarpon feeding right off the dock — 15th Street

Fisheries is a quintessential South Florida

experience.

40 – 52

The arts scene is abuzz throughout the year in

South Florida, but peaks in early December,

when top galleries from around the world show-

case works during

Art Basel Miami Beach

, the

U.S.’ premier international art festival. We’re talk-

ing big-time art — and big-time price tags — by

the likes of Picasso, Matisse, Miró, and Warhol. A

variety of satellite shows, including Art Miami,

Pulse, Red Dot, and Scope focus more on con-

temporary creations. Impressive anytime you visit,

the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach,

the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, and the Pérez

Art Museum Miami showcase extensive perma-

nent collections, along with popular traveling

exhibitions.

1 – 13

The most pleasant weather of the year occurs

during this time: warm enough to enjoy the water,

yet cool enough to comfortably explore the great

outdoors. Rent a canoe and explore the river at

the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, west of

Boynton Beach. For a little entertainment with your

wilderness adventure, go on an airboat tour or a

swamp-buggy ride at

Billie Swamp Safari

.

Afterward, enjoy a snake show before grabbing a

bite — alligator tail, perhaps — at the Swamp

Water Café. And no golfer’s visit is complete with-

out playing the Blue Monster in Doral, one of the

toughest courses on the PGA Tour.

27 – 39

When the weather turns hot and humid, it’s easy

to cool off and stay dry. The Gardens Mall in Palm

Beach Gardens is home to more than 150 upscale

stores, with sweeping skylights and tranquil foun-

tains creating a refreshingly relaxed aesthetic.

Reserve an entire day to explore Sawgrass Mills

in Sunrise, which boasts more than 350 stores,

and is the largest outlet center in the U.S.

Outdoors, perusing trendy boutiques along South

Beach’s

Lincoln Road Mall

is a chic way to

spend an evening.

activities and attractions. With miles of interlocking canals and opulent homes, Fort Lauderdale is known as The Venice

of America. Palm Beach adds a certain sophistication to the mix. And Miami is an adrenalized multicultural metropolis

that’s packed with lush parks, world-class restaurants, diverse museums, exciting nightlife, and one stunning skyline.

Each destination has its charms, and their proximity to one another means you can mix and match experiences.
