AN UP-CLOSE LOOK AT PARIS’
PASSAGE BRADY
hile classic French gastronomy is a beacon for the
ubiquitous bistro, Paris is a multicultural city that offers
countless cuisines in a variety of settings, including
Passage Brady. Known affectionately as “Little India,” this pedes-
trian walkway is lined with authentic, reasonably priced Indian and
Pakistani restaurants, and sundry shops. Look for the Passage
Brady signage at its entryways in the 10th arrondissement —
also lettered in blue and white tile work on the entrance grounds.
Dating to 1828, the iron-and-glass arcade takes its name from
M. Brady, the merchant who financed its original construction.
Under its shelter (and on the open-air end), the flavors of exotic
India come to life. You’ll find spicy favorites such as curry and
vindaloo, and samosas (filled savory pastries) and naan on most
menus, as well as a variety of vegetarian options. Then, after dining
like a
rajah
for mere
rupees
, stroll a bit and souvenir-shop for spe-
cialty spices, teas, jewelry, incense, and brightly woven textiles.
