NEWS & NOTES
PARK CITY AND SNOWBIRD, UTAH
SUDS AT THE SUMMIT
Summertime in the mountains means hiking through pine forests and meadows
peppered with wildflowers, shopping at quaint stores in charming little towns, and beer
festivals. Oktoberfest at Utah’s Snowbird — one of the state’s most popular community
celebrations — begins in mid-August and
lasts for approximately eight weeks, with
live music and other festivities happening
every Saturday and Sunday, plus Labor Day.
More than 50 brews are available, including
traditional imports and locally crafted favorites,
and menu items run the gamut from bratwurst
and sauerkraut to spaetzle and apple strudel.
Mesquite has casinos with all manner of
exciting table games and a few top-notch
golf courses. Its most thrilling attraction,
however, may still be one of its least
known. Skydive Mesquite is Nevada’s
largest, most comprehensive skydiving
operation. First timers are welcome and
can be airborne — as in free falling 120
miles per hour from 13,000 feet high —
in a matter of minutes. Which makes all
those exciting table games seem pretty
ho-hum.

TAKE THE PLUNGE
The joy of Legoland is immersing yourself in the world of the iconic
building blocks. When the Lego City Deep Sea Adventure attraction opens
at the Carlsbad location this summer, you’ll be able to
sub
merse yourself,
too. The new ride features real Lego-style submarines that take 12
passengers at a time on an underwater adventure in search of sunken
treasure. Besides interacting with the famous toy minifigure dive team,
guests will maneuver among some 2,000 live aquatic animals, including
various rays and sharks.

Downtown Dining
— Treat yourself at Breckenridge’s newest fine-dining restaurant, Legends
Steaks & Italian. The eatery began serving up high-end steaks, seafood, and indulgent house-made
pasta in fall 2017. In addition to delectable dinners and an impressive wine list, the atmosphere is
cozy. The walls are adorned with old-school black-and-white photos of some of Colorado’s historical
figures — from Barney Ford to Butch Cassidy — so you can journey back in time as you sip your
Prohibition-era cocktail. Tables at this downtown hotspot are in high demand, so be sure to make
a reservation in advance.

Treasure Trove

Colorado Snowsports Museum is set to reopen this year after an extensive $2.4 million remodel. The
upgraded center is expected to house six new exhibit bays, featuring a vast collection of snow-sport
artifacts, in addition to original exhibits, such as the Colorado skiing timeline, the evolution of skis,
and a historic overview of the Vail Valley. Stop by to discover the world of winter sports.
