ituated along the southeastern edge of its namesake body of water, Georgian Bay Islands National Park comprises 63 separate
landmasses. Some aren’t much more than uninhabitable outcroppings barely peaking above the waves. Others, though, with
their wind-weary pine forests, dreamy rock formations, and tranquil sand beaches, offer what seems like a full continent’s worth
of unspoiled natural splendor. Beausoleil Island, the largest — and one of the most popular — of the preserve’s destinations, is
one of those, and is easily accessible via the
DayTripper
ferry from Honey Harbour on Ontario’s mainland. Once there, scenic hikes and
panoramic bike rides are the principal activities, especially from late September through early October when the landscape is highlighted by a
grand display of the turning fall foliage.
