Cancún Golf Club at Pok-Ta-Pok; Coco Bongo Cancún

There is little doubt that this area’s best feature is
the water, and from Cancún south to Playa del
Carmen, there are seemingly endless ways to
enjoy it. Rent a personal watercraft or book a jet
boat tour. Go windsurfing or try a
Flyboard
, a type
of water jetpack. Beneath the surface, the
Mesoamerican Reef system, the largest barrier
reef in the Western Hemisphere, beckons scuba
divers. Answer the calling with operators such as
Aquaworld and Dive Mike, both of which offer a
number of regular and seasonal outings.
40 – 52
Shopping opportunities run the gamut from street
markets to high-end complexes of commerce.
You’ll discover trinkets and treasures at downtown
Cancún’s lively Mercado 23 and Mercado 28
bazaars. Luxury Avenue has a number of stores —
Burberry, Cartier, Swarovski — that live up to its
name, and with Venetian-style canals and an
impressive aquarium, La Isla Shopping Village is
much more than just another mall. The
pedestrian-friendly, and ultra-fashionable,
La
Quinta Avenida
(Fifth Avenue) in Playa del
Carmen is lined with trendy boutiques and
restaurants.

The weather along the Yucatán Peninsula’s
Caribbean coast is well suited to year-round out-
door activities, but from January through March,
with less humidity and average highs around 85°F
(29°C), a day on the links is particularly pleasant.
Try the
Cancún Golf Club at Pok-Ta-Pok
. It’s
one of the area’s most popular courses thanks to
spectacular views and hazards that include
ancient ruins. In Playa del Carmen, make plans to
dine at Alux, an elegant Mexican restaurant situ-
ated within an expansive cave.
27 – 39
Often overlooked because of the splendid shore-
line, this region’s interior is home to plenty of
adventures and attractions, too. Alltournative,
Selvatica, and other outfitters escort intrepid trav-
elers on exciting jungle excursions that can
include ATV rides, rock rappelling, zip lining, forest
treks, and snorkeling through underground
cenote river systems, as well as cultural encoun-
ters in small villages. Cancún’s nightlife — at
hotspots such as
Coco Bongo
, Dady’O, and
Señor Frog’s — might be considered even more
wild than the nearby jungle.

hy Go?
For an opportunity to visit one of the most naturally beautiful places on Earth. That’s right: Amid the infra-
structure that comfortably supports millions of visitors each year, this area maintains its magnificence. Water is all shades
of blue, from turquoise to cobalt — and clear. The beaches are soft. And the jungle is lush and mysterious. Cancún adds
nonstop nightlife and all manner of activities to the mix, while the Riviera Maya coast is more laid-back, and Playa del
Carmen offers hip shopping and dining, and easy access to the famous ecological parks.
