There’s no sand, but he makes a good point. Two sides of the pool are
bordered by attractive decking and simple, yet comfortable, lounge chairs
that provide the air of an island retreat, even though all the hubbub of the
city is a mere glance beyond the terrace railing. For those who manage to
remain focused on fitness, specifically the act of rejuvenating weary and
achy muscles, there are adjacent cold and hot whirlpool tubs available.
Signature Flavors
The oasis-like swimming area also serves as a stunning backdrop for
Loop Italian Restaurant Terrace and Bar, the resort’s signature eatery.
“The authentic dishes represent the heart and soul of Italian cuisine,”
explains Pratchawittayakorn. “Using only the finest in imported ingredi-
ents and produce, the restaurant places an emphasis on pure, rustic food
cooked from the heart by chef Roberto Panariello, and we’re proud to say
it’s just the way Mama used to make it.”
Most likely, Mama didn’t serve it alfresco next to a pool deck that
recalls a classy, laid-back atmosphere reminiscent of Phuket’s most
upscale retreats. But that’s one of the qualities of the Pathumwan
Princess. The amenities here—whether the location, the shopping, the
activity center, or the dining—all are amplified, as if the staff sat down with
a list of the most important vacation ownership features and then figured
out how to make them all exponentially better.
And it’s paying off in tangible ways. “Our Kongju Korean Restaurant
has been the proud recipient of numerous excellence awards, and has
repeatedly been voted Bangkok’s favorite Korean restaurant by
Thailand
Tatler
magazine,” says Pratchawittayakorn.
If Loop is the property’s signature restaurant—thanks, in large part, to
its setting—Kongju is the hip, hole-in-the-wall-style hotspot where visitors
will discover flavors they can’t imagine finding anywhere else. The menu
boasts a selection of truly authentic dishes, including its famous Korean
barbecue, and uses only the finest local and imported foods, with sauces,
marinades, and condiments all homemade.
Building on Success
Pathumwan Princess opened as a 455-room luxury hotel. During the last
two decades, both the hotel and the MBK Group have enjoyed a tremen-
dousamount of success. In fact, oneof theonly travel-and-leisure-oriented
avenues that the company had yet to explore was the world of timesharing.
But now, the timing just seemed right.
“We decided to get into this business in order to integrate all of our
MBK hotels and resorts, golf courses, shopping centers, and other prod-
ucts within the group to maximize our resources and facilities for all of
our members as another way to achieve their utmost satisfaction,” says
Pratchawittayakorn.
The result was transforming 25 rooms at Pathumwan Princess
into vacation ownership quarters. Known as Execu-Plus Suites, the
one-bedroom units measure 667 square feet (62 square meters) and all
have separate living areas and bedrooms, along with an oversized bath-
room. Accommodations are outfitted with comfortable furniture, Wi-Fi,
and a TV with DVD player.
Prices for the five-year, right-to-use floating weeks start at 155,500
Thai baht (US$4,400) for the standard membership, or 232,500 Thai baht
(US$6,588) for the Platinum tier, which includes availability during various
in-demand holiday weeks.
Continuing Forward
Now that the MBK Holiday Club has entered the vacation ownership
market, Pratchawittayakorn is focused on making sure the company’s
timeshare branch is just as successful as the company’s other outlets.
“We keep working to improve our accommodations to make our guests
more comfortable, and are exploring new and different ways to enhance
our overall quality of service,” he says.
One way they accomplished that was choosing Interval International
as their exchange provider. “The main reasons for selecting Interval as a
strategic partner are the value and quality of the products and services
that they have delivered to their members for the last four decades,”
Pratchawittayakorn explains. “We strongly believe that their exchange
program, Getaways, and other services will ensure that our members
have the opportunity to experience the whole world and make many
quality memories.”
Based on MBK Holiday Club’s first resort property—the Pathumwan
Princess Hotel, with its outstanding location and exceptional amenities—
it seems like a sure thing that future owners will have no problem making
life-long memories.
