One dazzling
scene that’s only on display during fall is the
annual changing of the colors in Colorado’s
mountainside forests. Come September, grove
after grove of aspen trees begin to erupt with
suddenly brilliant golden leaves (seemingly
overnight in some cases), while the occasional
cottonwood stand adds a few pockets of con-
trasting reds and oranges. Driving over Boreas
Pass Road, which ascends to about 11,400
feet, is typically considered the best fall foliage
route, but it’s also just the beginning. Add
Hoosier Pass for a longer loop, or head over to
French Gulch and the B&B Mines Trailhead for
a scenic walk among countless aspens.
